Spotify Listening Habits Dashboard
I created this dashboard using data from the Spotify API to visualize and explore my personal listening habits. The goal was to uncover patterns in the music I enjoy—whether it’s classic rock legends like the Grateful Dead and The Beatles, or modern artists like Sabrina Carpenter and 90s hip-hop—with a deeper look into my top artists, tracks, and albums over time.
To build this, I used Python with the Spotipy and pandas libraries to connect to the Spotify API. After registering for developer credentials through Spotify, I wrote a series of modular functions that pull data on short-, medium-, and long-term listening trends. While I currently run the script manually, the process is fully repeatable and could easily be automated on a schedule to refresh the Power BI dashboard regularly—a potential future enhancement.
In Power BI, I designed visualizations to show listening patterns across time, popularity of my most-played albums, and how my habits align with trending content on Spotify. It was both fun and eye-opening to see what music I gravitate toward and how that changes over time.
Beyond the personal insights, this project helped me sharpen skills that directly apply to a business setting:
Integrating with third-party APIs
Cleaning and transforming real-world data with Python
Designing clear, interactive reports with Power BI
It also mirrors real business scenarios where companies pull data from various SaaS platforms into a centralized system for analysis. This project demonstrates my ability to bring data together across tools and turn it into something insightful and usable.
This was a passion project, but it pushed me technically and gave me a chance to bring storytelling and analysis together. I’m always looking to improve it, but feel free to check out what I’ve built so far—and if you’re a fellow data enthusiast or hiring manager, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to chat about how these skills can drive value in your organization.
